NOTE // 017

Does the world need your business?_
October 22, 2025
Does the world need your business?

Uncomfortable question.

Most people avoid it.

Because the honest answer might be_

_probably not.

The world doesn't need another marketing agency.

Another coffee shop.

Another productivity app.

It already has plenty.

But here's what it does need: someone who gives a shit.

Someone who builds something that actually solves a problem.

That makes someone's day better.

That doesn't add to the noise.

Here's the trap:

Most businesses are built backwards.

Someone wants to make money.

So they find a thing to sell.

Slap some purpose on it later when the investor deck needs refreshing.

"We're not just selling coffee. We're building community."

Sure you are.

The shift isn't about purpose. It's about honesty.

Why does this exist?

Who's better off because you made it?

What would actually be lost if you shut down tomorrow?

If the answer is "nothing" or "my income," that's not a failure.

That's just information.

You can keep going.

Plenty of businesses exist just to pay the bills.

That's fine.

But don't dress it up as something it's not.

If you want to build something the world actually needs:

Start with a real problem.

One you've felt.

One you understand.

Build the solution you wish existed.

Make it better than it needs to be.

Charge fairly.

Treat people well.

Don't bullshit them.

Show up.

Keep your promises.

Do it again tomorrow.

That's it.

That's the work.

Not manifestos.

Not mission statements.

Just making something useful. And being honest about what it is.

The world doesn't need more businesses with grand visions.

It needs more businesses that do what they say they'll do.

Be that.
